New and Specialist Spectacle Lenses

Drivewear lenses are sunspec lenses designed specifically for driving although they are also excellent for general use sunspectacles. Available in single vision, bifocal or varifocal Drivewear are polarized sunglasses with a tint designed specifically for driving that adapt to how bright it is even behind a windscreen. It is particularly good for overcast or drizzly weather with broken cloud when you get sudden spells of very bright sunlight and reflected glare.

Another range of excellent sunlenses comes from NXT. These lenses all come in a near unbreakable material and have a range of different uses from glare reducing polarised lenses to photochromic sunlenses and high contrast tints that have benefits for various sports and activities.

Vista Mesh is an innovative lens process that helps provide better visual clarity and reduce glare. It can benefit a range of people who may have problems such as with glare from night driving or flourescent lighting.

Digital surfacing is now available on bifocals varifocals and single vision lenses. This allows lenses to be produced with much better peripheral vision, by controlling the extent of the blurring you get away from the centre of the lens. For high prescriptions and presciptions with a significant amount of astigmatism then this can make a significant difference to the quality of your vision.

There are a couple of new alternatives to a bifocal or varifocal lenses going either by the name of Combi PAL or At Last!. These similar products work similarly in that they look like a bifocal, with a visible line separating the distance area of the lens with the segment. How it differs from a bifocal is that within the segment the lens progresses from an intermediate vision area at the just below segment top to a closer reading segment further down. These lenses could be the answer if you want some vision at an arms length distance which is not present on a nromal bifocal but you've had difficulty with adapting to varifocals.
