Astigmatism

Is a common condition which can be present with both myopia and hypermetropia. If you have astigmatism the CYL (cylinder) and AXIS boxes will be filled in on your prescription. Simply put, having astigmatism means that the front of your eye is curved more in one direction than another; think of a rugby ball or the back of a spoon. Your Dispensing Optician will be able to advise you whether your degree of astigmatism is important with regard to the best choice of frame or the appearance of the lenses. It is possible to correct most astigmatism with contact lenses although it may not be as straightforward as a spherical prescription.
