Myopia

Is more commonly known as short sightedness. If you are myopic you will have a minus number in the SPH (sphere) box of your prescription. You will need your spectacles or contact lenses for good distance vision and may have to wear a correction all the time to see comfortably although you will probably be able to read or see close to without your glasses on. Your spectacle lenses will be thinnest directly in front of your eye and will get thicker towards the edge so the size of the lens will have a bearing on how thick your lenses will appear. If your lenses are quite strong then special types of plastic or glass can help to make your lenses thinner. Your Dispensing Optician will be able to advise on the most suitable frames and lens materials depending on the strength of your prescription.
